Manifestation 2008

In 2008 20eventi will collaborate with the arts department of Oxford University known as Ruskin School. The director of the school is Richard Wentworth, a well-known artist who in his early years was an assistant to Henry Moore and for years taught at the Goldsmith in London. Among his pupils there also was the now world-famous Damien Hirst. So this year the Sabina territory will host the works of the descendants of the "Sensation", i.e. the youngsters that 15 years ago shook New York’s art scene and thus imposed new English art on a global scale. Will we discover a future Star?

The collaboration with Ruskin School is facilitated by the full participation of the British Academy in Rome, where also the press conference will take place on the 8th of May. In contrast with some well established English academies such as Goldsmith, the Royal academy and St Martins, Ruskin School has a competitive selection process whereby only a few dozen students are accepted for intensive schooling.

In December '07 twenty students from Ruskin School have visited the Sabina to make contact with the surroundings and to collect materials to be used in the development of projects, the most interesting of which will be exhibited from the 10th of May, day of the inauguration of the event. All the works which will be presented in the towns of Fara Sabina and l'Abbazia di Farfa, Toffia, Poggio Moiano and Bocchignano/ Montopoli will be open to the public for viewing until the 25th of May.

With the intent of tightening the bond with the territory, this year even more collaborations will take place with art schools from central Italy as well as with freelance artists. As children, unlike adults, due to a lack of terminology are very spontaneous and direct in their approach to contemporary art we continue to work with kindergartens and elementary schools giving the pupils a formation course which has already been realized under the curation of Catherine Girault of Giocarte. She will also follow the tutoring in the various classes. Also the project of the children’s playground is ongoing with works realised by artists on the ground of the Filippo Cremonesi Foundation, which is adjacent to the popular Farfa Abbey.
